Happy Birthday to Me!

Today is my birthday, and since I've got a 12 hour work day my husband and I are planning to celebrate this Friday with a fabulous birthday BBQ. Behind every great party, is a great bar. Whether it's fully stocked or carefully selected cocktails are a must at my birthday bash! We are going to have beer, wine and one signature drink, which the birthday girl gets to decide. Check out my options after the jump!

Birthday Cake Martini
So cute and festive

I love this recipe mostly because the glasses are rimmed with sprinkles, such a cute idea for a birthday! However, since it is getting hot and very humid here, I think a drink mixed with half-and-half might be a bit heavy (think Ron Burgundy, "It's so hot...milk was a bad choice") But, upon further research, I found the same idea adapted to become a shot, and let's face it, who doesn't love shots on their birthday?

who needs cake?!

Since you can serve just about anything in a glass rimmed with sprinkles, I am thinking of opting for a fruitier drink like a watermelon-gin fizz cocktail:

2 cups strained watermelon juice; 1 cup simple syrup, juice of one lemon, 1 1/2 cups gin, club soda and ice!
Nothing says birthday like a bit of bubbly, so I am also considering a sparkling cocktail like this Cranberry, Tangerine and Pomegranate Punch from the queen bee herself, Martha Stewart.

Fizzy and Festive!
Finally, I may be nearing 30, but that doesn't mean my college days are far behind me... so of course we are including the infamous jello shot. Instead of serving them in a Disney Princess dixie cup (don't pretend you don't know what I'm talking about) we are going to serve the grown up version in a lime peel! How cute is this?! Suddenly, Jello shots are classy acceptable
