I love a great DIY gift for a lot of reasons. Not only does it show you care, but it is an interesting, one of a kind, work of art that the receiver can't get anywhere else. With that in mind, I made some pretty personalized hangers for my bridesmaids during my wedding. It was a simple process and made for a great way to display their dresses while we all got ready.
Since the hangers can say virtually anything you want, they work for a bride, a mothers day present or even a birthday gift.
To make the hangers, get 14 gauge wire at your local hardware store. On a large sheet of paper, trace the shape of a hanger. Then add in your names on the bottom part, you may want to practice them with string first, as some of the letters are difficult to make with one continuous line.
When you've got your names as you want them, cut off a VERY long piece of wire to begin, mine was about 2 meters to be safe (it depends how long your names are). Once you've made one you will have a feel for how long the wire should be, but it's better to have too much than too little.
Starting at the top hook, lay your wire over the top of your drawing and bend it to 'trace' the shape. Once you've made it to the bottom part, you can start with your name. It's a good idea to have something round to help you with all the curvy letters; I used a large round battery.
When you've finished with the name, follow the template back to the neck of the hook. Using pliers, twist the wire all the way around the neck until it is tight. Cut off any excess wire. Tie a bow in your choice of ribbon around the neck to top it off.
Lu! yay this was the cutest and such a nice touch at your wedding!! :)
ReplyDeleteI agree! A little personalization goes a long way in my book!
